About the Job:
Under the general direction of the Contracts and Grants Accounting
(CGA) Supervisor the Contract and Grant Accounting Officer (CGAO)
is responsible for providing Post award management services to
University of CA Merced Research community which consist; of
Principal Investigators (PIs), Pre and Post award Research
Administrators, Contracts and Grants Officers within the Sponsored
Projects Office (SPO) and other university stakeholders. The
incumbent uses skills as an experienced research administrator to
independently provide oversight on extramural awards, and
transactions related to contract and grant management, and
maintains contract and grant records in compliance with system-wide
research administrative and sponsor policies.
- Award set-up, invoicing, drawdowns from federal payment
management service portal, collaboration with RAs on completion of
monthly reconciliation, processing of adjustment transactions,
management of professional relationships with campus stakeholders
and sponsors to achieve established goals.
- In collaboration with post award research administrators the CGAO
manages awards of diverse scope requiring financial analysis and
understanding of complex regulations.
- Completes and routes transactions for signature by manager or
other authorized institutional official.
- Works on complex awards that may involve multiple investigators
and / or multiple sub awards.
- Guides less experienced staff through coaching and mentoring.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and 3 years of related
experience or 7 years of equivalent experience / training.
- Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience /
- Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of
Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and
educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related
to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict
of interest, biosafety, etc.
- Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
- Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized
- Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and
communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and
diverse subject areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes,
procedures and techniques.
- Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database
software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial
- Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all
areas of research administration. Familiarity with SOX, OMB's
Uniform Guidance, 2-CFR-200 and A-133 Auditing requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal
and reporting principles.
- Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive
text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding
