Job Description:

RECRUITMENT PERIOD

Open July 3rd, 2019 through Tuesday, Oct 1, 2019 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time)

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Public Health within the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts is seeking one new faculty member at the Assistant Professor level (tenure-track), Associate Professor (tenured), or Full Professor (tenured). Our ideal candidate for the position will be well positioned to support and expand the Environmental Health Sciences program. Regarding specialties, we are conducting a broad search, but preferably the candidate will have an interest in exposure science and toxins. Relatedly, candidates able to teach graduate level courses in this area, are particularly well-suited to the future of our program.

This is a unique opportunity for an individual to join the faculty at the newest University of California campus and to engage in long-term program building. We seek an outstanding scholar who will participate in continuing to expand the multi-disciplinary training program for public health students at the undergraduate, master s, and doctoral levels; participate actively in the development of innovative interdisciplinary programs and research initiatives including the pursuit of external funding; teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and provide meaningful service contributions to the growth of the Public Health program and to the greater campus and University of California. This is an academic year (9-month) assistant, associate, or full professor position with teaching, research, and service responsibilities. The position will require the ability to teach courses in exposure assessment and principles of toxicology.

In order to be considered, candidates must have a PhD in environmental health, toxicology, or a closely related field by the position start date. Additional qualifications include a strong record of publication; demonstrable interest in obtaining external funding; strong potential to create a successful research program relevant to the mission of the institution; and be able to teach at the graduate level, toxicology and exposure assessment courses.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2020.

Applications must be submitted online. Completed applications must be received no later than October 1, 2019, in order to be considered. Interested applicants are required to submit 1) a cover letter; 2) curriculum vitae; 3) statement of research; 4) statement of teaching; 5) up to three writing samples; 6) a contributions to diversity statement; and, 7) a list of 3 references with contact information including mailing address, phone number and e-mail address.

The contributions to diversity statement should describe your past experience, activities and future plans to advance diversity, equity and inclusion, in alignment with UC Merced s mission to reflect the diversity of California and to meet the educational needs and interests of its diverse population. Some faculty candidates may not have substantial past activities. If that is the case, we recommend focusing on future plans in your statement. A more developed and substantial plan is expected for senior candidates. For additional information on what should be included on your Diversity Statement, please visit http://facultyexcellence.ucsd.edu/c2d/index.html#Are-there-any-guidelines-for-wr.
Applicants for the Assistant Professor level should arrange to have three letters of reference submitted online. After an application is submitted, the letters of reference should be electronically uploaded by the letter writers (instructions will be provided by the application system). Letters of reference should be received no later than October 1, 2019.

Applicants for the Associate/Full Professor level should include a list of three references with their applications; letters of reference are not required at this time. Once the search committee has determined the short list of candidates, the search committee chair will request letters of recommendation at that time.
