About the Job

The Senior Advisor to the Executive Vice Chancellor/Provost and Chief of Staff (SACS) serves as the principal staff advisor to the Provost/EVC/Provost, who operates both as the chief operations officer and chief academic officer. The SACS provides advice, guidance, assistance and performs analytical support on a broad range of complex
subjects germane to the University; leads ad hoc analytical studies and facilitates input and follow-up on executive decisions; prepares reports, correspondence and other communications on behalf of the EVC/Provost and, represents the EVC/Provost at meetings both on and off campus. The incumbent assists with executing the full range of responsibilities of the office and division, with a clear understanding of overall campus objectives, activities and priorities. The SACS manages the workflow and oversees the management and staff of the EVC/Provost Office, as well as the Office of International Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

* The SACS is a senior advisor to the EVC/Provost providing high level staffing support and leadership. This requires extensive collaboration with the Office of the Chancellor, the Associate Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Vice Provosts and Deans as well as the Office of the President and system-wide colleagues. Stays well-informed and keeps abreast of higher education current and emerging issues in order to provide perspective across the organization. Makes long-term strategic decisions that reflect upon the organization as a whole. Conducts research and analysis of various issues which may be highly sensitive or confidential in nature, ranging from routine to complex, and may require innovative solutions. Provides the highest level of advising on academic and administrative matters, and makes recommendations as appropriate.

* Plans, designs and implements programs and establishes direction, policies and procedures for division and campus. Participates with the authority of the EVC/Provost on high-level task forces, campus committees, and planning groups and ensures that commitments to deliver specific work projects are met. Collaborates in the development of agendas and materials for key campus and system-wide meetings.

* Oversees the workflow and management and staff in the EVC/Provost Offices. Directs the administrative operations, planning and budget of immediate office and the Office of International Affairs.

* Provides guidance and expertise to department management/leaders in developing techniques and processes. Leads and/or participates in organizational design within and across divisions; ensures efficient re-structuring of work and staffing; obtains appropriate campus advice and resources in planning and implementation stages (HR, OD, Legal, Facilities, Budget, etc.).

* Interacts with senior management on controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers/leaders. Responds to and resolves a variety of complex issues; manages sensitive issues that require expedient and diplomatic action; builds strategic relationships with key constituencies and stakeholders; and exercises sound judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

* Oversees the preparation of briefing packets, talking points, correspondence and presentations for the EVC/Provost.

* The SACS will represent the EVC/Provost as needed to various constituents such as Academic Senate chairs, senior administrators, assistant/associate vice Chancellors and vice provosts, deans/assistant deans, etc.

* Provides day-to-day and long-range assistance to the EVC/Provost on a wide range of assignments, both internal and external to the campus. On behalf of the EVC/Provost, may lead projects of critical importance to the university.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree and 6 years of directly related experience or a combination of 10 years of experience, training and education. (Required)

* Masters degree and/or PhD preferred. (Preferred)
