What will you help us create?
As a Materials and Failure Analysis Engineer, you will be
responsible for determining rapid root cause analysis for issues
that we see in test and in the field. You will identify the failure
at the component- and system-level, design a failure analysis plan
to diagnose the root causes, and execute it from strategy to
operating tools in the lab. You will write clear and concise
failure analysis report, communicate effectively, and deliver the
solution precisely to multifunctional teams. You will advise on
strategies to mitigate issues and make a direct impact to cutting
edge designs. Your corrective actions will improve the product
quality to meet hardware reliability Specifications (SPECs) and
product timelines. You will also conduct materials characterization
and analysis to aid designs.
To enable this, you will be an expert in the following:
- A multitude of failure analysis techniques
- A variety of materials like plastics, glass/ceramics,
composites and metals
- The set-up and operation of multiple analytical tools and
This position can have up to 10% international and domestic
travel. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science or 7+ years in
performing failure analysis
- Solid knowledge in materials science & engineering, materials
physics, and chemistry
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with materials and failure
analysis techniques. Examples include SEM/EDX, XRF, FTIR, GC-MS,
ICP, TGA/DSC, 3D surface profiling, and Xray/CT
- Knowledge and experience with materials and device failures
related to fatigue, vibration and shock, electrical stress, device
and PCBA manufacturing and assembly issues, and environmental
- Experience in writing final failure analysis reports and
presentations Postgraduate degree in Engineering or Science,
preferably in Chemistry
- Experience with Instrons, Oscilloscopes, Curve Tracers, Source
Meters, Thermal Imaging, and TDRs
- Experience with Failure Analysis of Field Returns
